Typically die-casting cavity inserts are inserted into the die holder from the back-side (so they cannot be pulled out during the casting operation) and then bolted in-place.

However, recent improvements in the design of copper rotor dies allows them to be inserted from the hot face of the die. In addition, instead of bolting the Haynes Alloy 230 inserts to the holder die, the inserts are clamped in place. This allows the inserts to be easily and rapidly changed when different sized rotors are to be cast.
