Secret to Die Casting Copper Revealed - The greatest challenge of the copper motor rotor project has not been to die cast copper, but to die cast it economically. A fundamental understanding of the failure of past trials – namely short die life – has been the focus of current research. It was decided in the early phases of the project that the steel traditionally used in dies to cast aluminum rotors needed to be replaced with a high-temperature material suitable for molten copper.
